I hear it all the time… “how come we don’t get any cool bands in PA?” The truth is, we’ve had some great acts come to Prince Albert in recent years, but not a lot of people go see them. They will drive the hour and a half to see the same band in Saskatoon for some reason though, and that is the answer to the question. If you don’t go, they won’t won’t come.
Like everything else, it’s all about the money. If you think bands aren’t in it for the money, then you’re kidding yourself. It costs money to tour, and band promoters and venues want to make money too. They have to sell a certain amount of tickets at each venue to break even, and if ticket sales are bad every time they try to send an act to PA, eventually they don’t send bands here anymore. Conversely, if each show they promote is sold out, they will send even more shows, and the quality of acts will improve. Quite simply put, if you want really cool bands to come to town, you have to prove to the promoters that it’s worth the risk.
Prince Albert is such a last minute town too. It’s almost like people are waiting to see if something better will come along. For some reason people put off buying tickets right away when a local show is announced, and that scares promoters too.
So I guess what I’m trying to say is, support these acts when they come to town. show the promoters that they can make money by coming here. If you don’t, then get ready for a lot of road trips to Saskatoon.
