Earlier this year I helped to host BOB Awards for our friends at paNOW.com. Since it was a bit of a gala affair, I put on a nice dress shirt and my suit jacket so I could look respectable for a change. When I went to do up the button on my jacket, I found it wouldn’t reach. Apparently hanging in the closest had shrunk my coat… or I got fat.
Sadly, it was the latter. Over summer I hadn’t been eating well, and busy with work, but not overly active. I used to be able to eat whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted, but as I’ve been getting older, my metabolism apparently decided to slow down. I should’ve seen the warning signs… I had already bought a new suit a few years earlier because I had outgrown the last one, and now I was getting too big for my new suit… my fat suit. That’s when I knew that I had to do something drastic… I had to start eating responsibly. I needed to wear that coat at least 3 more times this year, and I need it to fit.
I learned that eating responsibly means watching portion sizes, and eating less of the foods you like, and replacing them with vegetables. Vegetables? That’s what food eats! I used to have a Mars bar and a Coke for breakfast. What have I turned into? I want to go back to eating like a teenager without any regard for my health.
I’ve actually been behaving myself and not sneaking snack foods, I’d only be defeating myself, and I’m pleased to report that the jacket fits again. After 2 months, I’m down 15 pounds. I have to wear the suit one more time this week for our Xmas staff party, and then figure out how to keep the weight off with all the food that happens around Xmas. I guess since I don’t have to wear the suit again for another year it doesn’t matter, but I do have a trip to Mexico coming up in Feb, and I need to fit into my Speedo.
