November is here, and that kicks off Prostate Cancer Awareness month. A lot of awareness lately has come from a movement called ‘Movember’, where guys grow out their mustache, while raising money for the cause. It was really big for a few years, then it just turned into a reason to grow a cheesy mustache, no one was raising money anymore, and the actual meaning was lost. There are still some guys raising money, and if you don’t know anyone raising money for it, you can always donate to the Canadian cancer Society, and specify what you’d like it earmarked for.
I just had my annual physical a few days ago, and yes, the doctor checked my prostate. Yes, it’s an embarrassing procedure, and not pleasant, but it’s over in a few seconds and it could save your life… literally. And really, there’s no reason to feel embarrassed, doctors do this all the time, so it’s normal to them and they think nothing of it. It’s only embarrassing because you THINK it’s embarrassing. You think you’re a tough guy, but you can’t handle being embarrassed? Really?
If caught early enough, prostate cancer is one of the most curable forms of cancer, so ask yourself… would you rather die or feel embarrassed? Man up and get checked.
